How much to charge for pest control

Pest control businesses tend to price a treatment by the size of the home and the pest, and charge less per visit to customers on a regular plan. Cockroaches, rodents and bed bugs take longer to get on top of than a general spray, so they cost more.

How pest control businesses set their prices
By property size and pest
A base price from the floor area of the home, raised for pests that take longer to treat. It suits one-off jobs, and customers can answer both questions without an inspection.
Service plans
A price per visit for regular treatments, such as every three months, often with a higher first visit. Plans give you steady income and routes you can fill in advance.
Inspect, then quote
For heavy infestations and commercial sites, inspect first and quote in writing. Some businesses charge for the inspection and take it off the job if the customer goes ahead.

Pricing mistakes to avoid
- Charging every pest the same. Rodents mean checking traps and finding entry points, and cockroaches often need a follow-up. Our template adds 30% for cockroaches and 50% for rats or mice.
- Cutting the plan price too deep. A quarterly visit is quicker than a first treatment, but you still drive there and use product. Our template takes 25% off each visit on a quarterly plan.
- Promising free return visits without counting them. If you come back whenever pests return between treatments, build those trips into the plan price and put the limits in writing.
- Leaving out paperwork time. Treatment records and prep notes for the customer take time on every job, and your local rules may ask for more. Check them and price that time in.

Questions
- Should I charge more for the first treatment on a plan?
- Many businesses do, because the first visit takes longer and uses more product than the ones after it. Charge a start-up fee, or your one-off price for the first visit, then move to the plan price.
- How should I price bed bugs?
- Bed bugs are often priced by the room or by treatment method, since the work is focused where people sleep. Our template charges three times the home-size price, so change it if you treat room by room.
- What if I can't see the problem, like rats in the roof?
- Give a starting price with a range, and say the final price is set after an inspection. On the pest control template, the range runs from 10% below the estimate to 15% above it.
- Should termite work go on my quote form?
- Keep it off the instant price. Termite work depends on what an inspection finds, so offer a priced inspection instead and quote the treatment afterwards.
- How do I put pest control prices on my website?
- Use a quote form with three questions: home size, the main pest, and one-off or plan. Customers see a price range straight away, and you check the details before booking them in.
