How much to charge for window tinting

Tinters usually price a car by which windows get film, then adjust for the size of the vehicle and the grade of film. Removing old tint is charged on top, because it can take as long as fitting the new film.

How window tinters set their prices
By coverage
Set prices for the jobs people ask for: the front two windows, all side and rear windows, or the whole car. Customers usually know which windows they want done, so it's quick to quote.
Film tiers
The same job at a price for each film you stock, from standard up to ceramic. Explain what the better film does, like keeping more heat out, and let the customer pick.
Per window
A price for each window, for one-off jobs like a replaced door glass or a single window with damaged film. Whole cars are easier to sell as a package.

Pricing mistakes to avoid
- Using one price for every film. Ceramic film costs you more to buy than standard film, so the price has to follow, or your best product earns you the least.
- Charging a car price for an SUV or van. More windows and larger rear glass mean more film and more time. Our template adds 20% for SUVs, trucks and vans.
- Quoting all cars of one size the same. Some rear windows are steeply curved and take much longer to shrink the film to. Keep a list of the models that slow you down and charge more for them.
- Charging a small fee for a single window. Setting up for one window takes nearly as long as setting up for two. Our template has a $100 minimum in the US.

Questions
- How much more should I charge for ceramic tint?
- Enough to cover the dearer film and still earn more on your best product. Our template adds 70% for ceramic film and 25% for carbon, on top of the standard film price.
- Should I charge to remove old tint?
- Yes. Old film often comes off in pieces and leaves glue behind, and on the rear window you have to protect the heating lines. Show removal as its own line so the customer sees why the price went up.
- What tint shades should I offer?
- Only shades that are legal where your customers drive. Tint laws differ between states and countries, and they often set different rules for the windscreen and the other windows, so check your local rules before you list your options.
- How can customers get a tint price from my website?
- Set up a quote form with your window options and film grades. Customers see the price for their car as they choose, and you get their details and vehicle with each request.
