How much to charge for a mobile car wash

Mobile car washes usually charge a set price per car for each package, plus a surcharge for SUVs, vans and 7-seaters. Customers who book a wash every few weeks pay a bit less each time, and in return you get regular work you can plan your routes around.

How mobile car washers set their prices
Packages per car
Two or three set packages, such as an exterior wash, a wash with an interior vacuum and a wash with wax. Customers compare them quickly, and it's easy to offer the next package up when you arrive.
Regular wash plans
A lower price per wash for customers booked every 2 weeks or every month. You earn a little less per car, but next month's work is already booked.
Fleet and workplace rates
A price per car for several vehicles at one address, like a company fleet or an office car park. There's no drive between cars, so a lower price per car can still pay you more per hour.

Pricing mistakes to avoid
- Giving the regular price to customers who don't book regularly. The discount pays for a standing booking you can plan around. If someone skips more washes than they keep, move them back to the one-off price.
- Charging the same for a hatch and a 7-seater. Bigger vehicles take longer on the roof and have more seats to vacuum. Our template adds $15 for an SUV and $25 for a truck, van or 7-seater in the US.
- Taking bookings all over town on the same day. The driving between them eats the profit on cheaper packages. Fill each day in one area, and add a travel fee for addresses outside it.
- Cleaning out pet hair and stained seats for free. Either one can take longer than the wash itself. List them as extras so the customer chooses them before you turn up.

- Time each package on an average sedan and multiply by what you need to earn per hour. Add your costs per wash, such as product and fuel, then set the SUV and 7-seater prices from the extra minutes they take.
- Should I charge more than a drive-through car wash?
- Yes. You wash by hand and save the customer the trip, so they're paying for your time as well as the wash. Compare your prices with other mobile washers near you, since automatic washes sell something different.
- Should I give regular customers a discount?
- A modest one, because a car washed every few weeks is quicker to clean and the booking is guaranteed. Our template takes 15% off washes every 2 weeks and 10% off monthly washes.
- Should I charge less for two cars at the same address?
- A little less per car is fair, because you only drive there and set up once. Keep the discount small, since each car still takes as long to wash.
- Can I put my car wash prices on my website?
